HPP News

The AFF invites all interested fencers to register for the following Coach Designated Tours in January 2018:

1) Cadet and Junior tours in Foil, Epee and Sabre, for Men & Women

2) the Open & U/23 Men's Epee Tours

The above Coach Designated Tours are compulsory for members of the High Performance Program (AFT only) in the relevant age categories for the 2017/18 cycle.

However, the tours are also open for participation by non-HPP fencers.

The attached documents set out the preliminary plans for each tour, separated by weapon group. Fencers should ensure they download the information for the tour they are interested in. Further information about each tour can be obtained from the contacts listed in the documents.

Fencers who are considering participating in the tours should note the "Fees and Charges" information on the AFF website (click here), together with the Operational Protocols on Selection (click here) and Tour Costs (click here).

In order to nominate for the events which form part of the tour, you will need an FIE licence and/or an EFC licence for the 2017/18 international season (click here). This is not required immediately, however you will not be able to complete your tour registration unless all of the international representation pre-requisites have been completed (click here).

IMPORTANT NOTE: Nomination for the World Cup and EFC events that are part of these tours is an additional process and must be completed using the overseas event entry facility (click here). Fencers will require an FIE licence before their entry can be completed. As with the FIE and EFC licences, event nomination does not need to be done at the time of tour registration.

Fencers should also note the operation of the AFF Selection Policy for World Cup and EFC events - in particular, see sections A4.27 to A4.31 for individual competitions and sections A4.39 to A4.41 for team competitions.

To register for the Coach Designated Tours (any weapon group), click here. To see who has already registered, click here. The closing date for standard registrations is 29 September 2017, following which late fees will apply.

The AFF is again calling for interested fencers to nominate for the Under-23 Australian Fencing Team and the Australian Fencing Squad for 2016/2017.  Nominations will only be accepted by 25 December (AFT) or 29 December (AFS) via the AFF’s Registration and Payment System.

The AFF has provided a significant amount of source information regarding the AFF's High Performance Program on this web site under the High Performance menu, including a flowchart and some frequently asked questions.  Athletes should take special note of the obligations in the HPP 2016-17 plan, as they have changed (compared to the 15-16 Plan).

Please ensure that you nominate for the correct age category under the correct program (AFT or AFS).  Please also ensure that you fully understand the athlete commitments that are required under the HPP - these can be found in the High Performance Annual Program (High Performance menu at left, High Performance Program option).

The selection process and timeline will follow the Operational Protocol found on this web site under the Documents and Policies menu / All Documents and Policies option.

From 1 February 2016, the AFF will commence paying for Australian entries for the Team events held concurrently with FIE Senior World Cups and Junior World Cups.  These fees are set by the FIE and are 400 Euros (Senior) and 150 Euros (Junior) per Team.  Previously, these fees needed to be paid for by individual fencers.

In early 2015, it was agreed by the State Associations to levy athletes attending overseas events a nominating fee ($50 per event) which would then contribute to a pool of funds which would then be used to pay for the Australian Team event entries.  Recent changes to the AFF's Selection Policy have now facilitated this process.

The revised overseas (FIE / EFC) event entry process is now available, and is documented on the Competitions / FAQs web page (click here).
